I echo and extend two thoughts:

Passion - If you have no passion for what you do, then you will never have
any hope of doing it well, nor are you likely to do it for very long.

Discipline - Nice to have because you tend to stay on track a bit more and
you don't get sidetracked for hours or days on end.  But clearly not an
indicator of success.

Creativity - Thinking outside the box.  Looking at something and asking,
"How does it work"? (if it works) and, "Why does it work"? (clearly not the
same thing).  But taking it the next step and saying (especially if it
doesn't work), "How could it be made to work"?

Interesting analogy about software developers - I like the talented types
most (regardless of hardworking or Lazy).  But Talent, Passion, and
Creativity are what I look for in top-notch developers.
