Downloading from Dial Data via the Internet

If you download data from Dial Data by phone, you recently received a
letter telling you that they were discontinuing their phone network
connections and that you will have to start downloading via the
Internet only.

This is easy to do but requires you to manually close a warning
dialog box, preventing this from being done when you are asleep in
the middle of the night.

I recently requested a fix from Omega Tech Support and they sent the
instructions appended below. Seems to work fine so I thought others
might like to use it.

This is for TradeStation 4.0. Perhaps something similar will work for
TS2000i

Subject:Downloader Problem

I retrieve daily data from Dial Data each night using the Downloader
as part of TradeStation 4.0.

I set it to download the data at 5:00 AM each morning automatically
using the "Scheduler" in the Downloader. I pick this time since by
then, the data errors from the previous day have mostly been cleaned
up, the data server is not very busy, and the data is ready when I
arrive between 6 and 7 AM.

Dial Data recently notified me that they will soon discontinue the
phone network and that I have to use the Internet. I tried to do so
but ran into a problem.

I have a full time Internet connection so do not have to make the
connection to the Internet.

However, the automatic download does not work because the Downloader
first displays a dialog box that says "Internet Connection Required"
and requires me to click on the "Continue" box. Since I am not here
at 5:00 AM, this hangs the download process until I arrive in the
morning. (The download takes well over an hour so I cannot wait to do
it after I arrive in the morning.)

Please tell me how to disable the "Internet Connection Required"
message so I can continue to collect this data unattended.

Dear Mr. Fulks,

Follow these steps to disable the Internet reminder message in the Data
Downloader.

1.   Close the Data Downloader.
2.   Click on the Start | Run menu sequence.
3.   In the Open: edit box type or_dman.ini.
4.   Click OK.
5.   Scroll down to the last line of the file and press the <End> key on
      the keyboard.
6.   Hit <Enter> and add the following lines to the bottom of the file:
7.   [MESSAGES]
      INTERNET=OFF

8.   Click the File | Save menu sequence and then File | Exit.


The Internet Connection Warning should not appear again.
