I've been through this before along with a few other Signal users. If you
call Signal they will tell you it's Omega's problem. If you call Omega,
they tell you it's Signals problem. Usual bloody story!
The bottom line is that SIGNAL are sending out the wrong exchange identifier
when they transmit the ticks. TS then says "hello that's wrong, let me put
them in the correct place". So in theory, this problem shouldn't matter as
TS just corrects the incoming mistake and the tick gets processed and stored
properly. That's the theory. But like many, I believe that sending ticks
with the wrong exchange identifer causes ticks to be lost. Signal are the
people to beat up about this not Omega (good luck!!!). Reinstalling TS
won't make any difference, since the problem is what Signal are sending.
I should say that your problem seems far too extreme (1 in 10 ticks?!). My
problems with UNDEF ticks have never come close to being that bad. I
seriously doubt the UNDEF issue (although irritating) is the cause of such
extreme data loss. One thing to consider is your cable feed. Are you
getting clear TV reception? If so, has your cable company started recently
to mess around with the VBI lines (the part that BMI/Signal sends it's data
along)? This would cause the kind of data loss you talk about. There's no
obvious way of knowing if they are messing with the VBI lines - it has
nothing to do with your TV picture. The BMI box will have a high number of
bad packets (ask them where to look for this), whereas the Signal box's OK
light will flicker too much and sometimes go red. This is how you know if
the problem is with your cable company and it's VBI lines.
You have to call DBC and get them to contact an engineer at your cable
company and check whether the cable company has been 'doing work' on the VBI
lines. Some cable companies never touch them, others seem to mess with them
constantly; thus explaining how two cable users in different parts of the
country can have two totally different experiences.
