if one is serious about trading electronically, then applying for an
electronic trading permit (or etp) with the cme may be the best way to
go for trading the stock indezes and other globex products. the etp
costs $1500 upfront, and you need to deposit a $25k t-bill with a
clearing firm of your choice and negotiate a commish (usually $2 per
rt) with them. when the etp is approved, cme will install the globex2
terminal at the location of your choice. cme heavily subsidizes the
terminals such that the monthly fees are free if you trade 250 lots per
month. for an active day trader, trading 15+ lots a day is easily
accomplished.

for more info, contact cme marketing or visit cme's website
http://www.cme.com/

as an aside, the s&p pit guys follow the e-mini for market pricing and
direction

no affliation with cme, standard blah disclaimer

the only electronic system I found with acceptable execution and fill
