This morning I tried to rename CAI/B to CAL, due to Continental
Airlines changing their NYSE symbol of their class B shares.
Just as when Citigroup grabbed the single letter stock symbol C/NYSE and
dropped their old symbol CCI/NYSE, a rename of CAI/B to CAL looses all
tick data. It does keep the daily data, amazingly.
What is the "cure" this time? Why don't you explain fully all the
ramifications of the TS 4.0 rename bug, so your users will not have
to experiment with each case of a symbol change? Rather you could
tell the truth and the whole truth about the scope of the rename bug
and save us all a lot of grief.

Dear Mr. Grisham,
We have also come across the issue of renaming the CCI symbol to C, and
having the tick data be deleted. Please use the following steps to rename
the symbol CCI to C without loosing your tick data.
1. In your Omega Research Server, click File | Portfolio.
2. In the Portfolio, highlight the symbol CCI, and click Rename.
3. In the Rename Symbol/Exchange dialog, in the New Symbol Name text
box, change CCI to CC. In other words, only remove the "I" from the symbol
name.
4. Click OK. The system will display a message telling you that the
symbol is being renamed from CCI to CC.
5. Once this is finished, you can verify that your data is still there,
through the Edit Tick window. Just Cancel the Edit Tick window to close it.
6. In the Portfolio, with CC highlighted, click the Rename button
again, to get into the Rename Symbol/Exchange dialog again.
7. In the Rename Symbol/Exchange dialog, in the New Symbol Name text
box, change CC to C. This time, you will be removing the second "C" from
the symbol name.
8. Click OK. The system will display a message telling you that the
symbol is being renamed from CC to C.
9. Once again, you can use the Edit Tick window to verify that your
data is still there.
This will take care of the renaming issue for you.
If you have any further questions, feel free to contact us.
Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,

I am sure you are aware that after the Daimler - Chrysler
merger closed, they chose to use the symbol DCX/NYSE. Shortly thereafter
Citigroup grabbed the single letter stock symbol C/NYSE and dropped their
old symbol CCI/NYSE. BMI stopped transmitting data for Citigroup using the
symbol CCI on 12/3 and started transmitting data under the symbol C on 12/4.
I have tried to use both the online server and the off line
BMI servers to rename CCI data without success. Everything I have tried has
resulted in loosing all tick data for CCI, just as though I deleted the
data.
In summary, for the last attempt, I took the following
steps:
1. Copied out tick data for CCI, about 60 days ending
12/3.
2. Copied out my "new" data for C - 12/4 through today
12/9.
3. Deleted C.
4. Renamed CCI to C.
5. Looked at data for C. There is no tick data, just
the symbol and daily data.
6. I would have pasted in the 12/4 - 12/9 data for C,
but it seemed useless given the rename failure.
How can I combine the two sets of data for the one company?
