I can't answer your question but a friend a I spent a lot of time on
discovering exactly how the opening is calculated each day. I
forget all the details but it is only after some time has passesd that
the official number is available. It is physically impossible, I believe
to get it as it is happening. The problem surrounds the idea that
the individual stocks open at different times after the bell. So, the
official number that appears in the WSJ is 'theoritical'-I believe-
insofaras not one trade took place at the 'open' but several and
they were at different times.
