Re: Good Data Providers/Beta Software

Fellow Traders,

I am new to the list a week ago, and this is my first post. I just wanted to
add my kudos for FutureSource. I have only been with them for 2 months, and
all is well. They are knowledgeable, and available 24/7 essentially, and
never cause me to wait on hold for more than a minute or so.

FutureSource's only weakness is that their own software only runs underneath
TS4.0 at this time, and their server software is somewhat antiquated and
unfriendly/DOS like for adding symbols etc.. They are releasing a new server
& client product of their own that they say is a TradeStation killer, though
I do not believe it will do any historical backtesting/system creation. I am
unsure on this point though.

Previously I was with BMI, first as a delayed feed, then for some months
Real Time. I don't have tick counts, but BMI somewhat regularly sent bad
data, and their support was a nightmare. Long waits on hold! To their
credit, at least their data came in to Omega's server easily, so adding
symbols etc. for TS 4.0 to track was an easy task.

FutureSource says their new product WILL be compatible with TS2000 sometime
in the summer. Any sooner than that will probably be before Omega cleans up
their act anyway, so we must wait to see.

I am modestly profitable trading the Day S&P with a somewhat simple breakout
system, so I am not in a rush to decapitate myself with TS2000.
Feature-wise, it does seem an intriguing product though!

Good luck to those that hang in there with TS2000 in this early interim
period! Being a consultant/reseller of 10 years in the computer business, I
can say that it is NOT uncommon for companies to end up testing their new
major software releases on the public.

Frankly, though I resent it as much as anyone, there is no way a software
developer CAN ever do a broad enough beta before they release. In this case
there are too many hardware/data provider/software variables to cover. This
is in no way meant to imply that Omega did do its homework on TS2000, or to
excuse them! To the contrary, it seems as if they did not, from what I read.
And in their case, in such a "mission critical" arena as trading/investing,
they then justly suffer the slings & arrows of discontent that we've been
reading herein!

However, in between business reality and the ideal, the bleeding edge of
early adopters lives on. My hat is off to them, but I won't join them in
this case.
