A number of you have expressed surprise at messages you got from
Melody at Omega Research, thanking you for your posting to the
omega list. The explanation is that Melody had installed an
autoresponder in her incoming email system to send such thank-you
notes, and since she's a subscriber to this list, the autoresponder
was sending its notes to all list posters. She has fixed the
problem, and is now back with us, listening in to the list traffic.
Let this be a cautionary tale for anyone thinking of using any
sort of autoresponder, particularly during a vacation. Under
no circumstances should an autoresponder reply to mailing list
traffic, as this incident so vividly demonstrates. Vacation
autoresponders should have logic in them that limits their
messages to one per address.
