I do very little with options and futures data. But I do follow a few
symbols. I've found Compuserve to be very reliable when it comes to EOD
data. It is - by today's standards - a very expensive service. But -
assuming you're only following a few contracts - it's worth it IMO.
As for indices (and general market data - like A/D stuff) - I use DialData
for a fair number of them. The only problems I've had in the last few
months are decimal point problems with the Nikkei and Hang Seng - and some
problems getting accurate lows on the Euro for the first month or so of its
existence.
As for stocks - I think you'll find the same problems that I've encountered
with mutual funds. Namely that the services aren't great (not even good)
when it comes to adjusting for dividends and distributions and splits. I
follow fewer than 50 mutual funds and stock symbols - and I watch for the
dividends and distributions - and do all of the adjustments manually. Kind
of a PITA - but worth it to keep my database clean. Frankly - I don't know
what I'd do if I wanted to follow 500 stocks or mutual funds.
By the way - I rely on all of this data for investing and trading. That's
one reason I go to great lengths to keep "clean" data - and one reason why
- over the years - I've restricted myself to the items that I consider
absolutely necessary for my work. Robyn
