Allen's report is correct.
This control is what gives the dialog boxes their 3-D look.
The current release of the Omega suite is working fine with version:
2,31,0,0 5/11/98.
This is the current and latest version available. It is originally
installed by Windows 98 and all of the Visual Series of development
products from Microsoft (Visual Studio, Visual Basic, Visual Java ++,
etc.) if the users version is older. This version is on your Windows
98 install CD.
To determine what version and date you have, use the FIND command
under the START button.
When the file shows up in the listing, right click on the file an
select Properties and then the Version tab.
This will display a list.
Select Product Version in the listing and read the results in the
adjacent window.
Do the following to replace:
Click Start --> Accessories --> System Tools -- System Information
When the System Information program loads, go to the Tools menu and
select System File Checker.
To replace one file, select the second/lower option button "Extract
one file from installation disk".
Enter the entire file name into the text box or use the Browse button
to locate the file in the "\Windows\System" directory.
Load the Windows 98 CD.
Click the Start button on the System File Check dialog box and the
rest should be easy.
If this doesn't solve the problem, uninstall the program giving you
the problem and install it again as something might not have
registered correctly the first time.

I wonder who you spoke to at MS. Ctl3d32.dll is a Windows ActiveX
common
control. It is distributed with lots of programs. A program installer
is
supposed to not overwrite a correct version with an incorrect one,
but then
there aren't any computer bugs, are there?
I think Internet Explorer installs this. You might try reinstalling
IE, if
this is a program you have. If you get error messages about this file
during installation, it's usually OK to click around them. Another
possibility would be to try reinstalling UMDS, since if it uses that
DLL,
it should install it.
