about six weeks,  you need finger print cards and about 80 dollars for the
cta, and 100 dollars to become your own principle.  the 100 gets you the cta
without having to be sponsored by a brokerage firm.  at this point you will
be a publishing cta, you may publish advice and practically do anything
except accept clients money to be managed and participate in commissions.

to be paid on performance you will need to additionally get the series 3
brokers license (about 75).  once this is done you can accept clients money
to manage and you could participate in commissions, incentive fees,
percentage of profits - if properly disclosed to the client.

interesting to note : to be a cta requires no test of any kind, and the nfa
makes no distinction in the title cta between a registered and a non
registered cta, go figure..
