Omega Server question

I am really confused about something, and I have a feeling I'm just
missing something obvious.

In Server, when File-Portfolio is opened, I go to Add to add a symbol, I
add the symbol to the "symbols to be added box", then, in the lower left
corner of the window is a box that can be checked and the number of days
specified that data is saved for (by default the box is checked and I
believe the number is 5000).  I click OK here and then a dialog box
comes up asking if I want to import data from the historical CD or the
downloader and I select the historical CD.

Now here is the part I'm confused about, a dialog box comes up asking me
to specify the dates I wish to collect data for.  I thought I had
already specified that in the box that has 5000 days as the default?
Which one takes precedence here, or am I just missing something?
