Document: Installing the TradeStation 4.0 Build 22 Patch and adjusting for
Euro Conversion
For users of: TradeStation 4.0 and SuperCharts Real-Time 4.0
Abstract: Effective January 1, 1999, most European Stock Exchanges will
begin trading stocks in the European Currency Unit. Local currencies will
be converted to Euros based on the conversion rate effective at the close
of business on December 31, 1998.
Users will need to adjust their existing price data to reflect the new
currency, and adjust the settings in the Symbol Universe for the symbols
traded on the European Exchanges so that any new data is properly stored
and displayed.
This document outlines the recommended procedures for handling the
conversion, and consists of Steps A through D. You will be guided through
the process of backing up your current data, installing the Build 22 patch,
adjusting existing price data for affected symbols, and verifying/adjusting
the affected symbol settings in the Symbol Universe.
IMPORTANT: We recommend you perform Steps A through D after the close of
the trading session December 31, 1998 and before the next trading session
begins. However, you can perform these steps after the stocks begin trading
in the new currency.
If you have any questions regarding this procedure, please contact Omega
Research Technical Support.
STEP A: Back Up Current Data
Perform this procedure after market hours using the Off-Line Data Server.
Copying out data during market hours may interrupt data collection.
Ideally, this process should take place between the close of trading on
December 31, 1998, and the open of trading on January 4, 1999.
1.Use the Start - Programs - Omega Research - Offline Data Server menu
sequence (selecting your appropriate offline data provider).
2.In the Offline Data Server, use the File - Copy Out menu sequence.
3.In the Target: box, type the full path of the filename to contain the
data.
Example: Type C:\TSDATA\MYDATA where TSDATA is the name of the
directory and MYDATA is the name of the file that will contain the
backup of your data. Do not include a file extension.
4.The Intraday and Daily check boxes should remain selected, and you must
enter a Start Date for each type of data.
5.Click Add All to add all of the symbols from the Server Portfolio to
the backup file.
6.Click OK.
7.Close the offline server.
The resulting file will be a single file with the name specified in Step 3
with the OMZ extension. It will be located in the directory you specified in
Step 3. Keep this file in a safe place for use only if you need it.
STEP B: Install the Build 22 patch
Download the TradeStation 4.0 Build 22 patch specific to your data provider
from the Omega Research web-site, please choose one of the following:
The available patch files are:
Btc4022.exe for the BMI Bonneville Data Feed
Sig4022.exe for the DBC Signal Data Feed
Csk4022.exe for the S&P Comstock Data Feed
Download the file directly into your X:\Omega\Prog directory, where X is the
drive letter where TradeStation is installed.
To download the patch file directly into your Omega\Prog directory:
Click the exe file. You are prompted to Open the file, or Save it to Disk.
Choose Save to Disk, and save the file in your Omega\Prog directory.
Note: If you downloaded the file into another directory, use Windows Explorer
to copy it to the Omega\Prog directory.
Once you have downloaded the appropriate patch file:
1.Make sure no other programs are running. Then, start Windows Explorer
(use the Start - Programs - Windows Explorer menu sequence).
2.Open the Omega directory.
3.Open the Prog directory, and locate the patch file you downloaded:
Btc4022.exe for the BMI Bonneville Data Feed
Sig4022.exe for the DBC Signal Data Feed
Csk4022.exe for the S&P Comstock Data Feed
4.Double-click the patch file.
5.A DOS window will open and prompt you to overwrite the exiting files.
Press the Y key on your keyboard to overwrite all the old files with
the new patched versions.
6.Once the files are overwritten, the installation is complete. Close all
open windows and programs.
STEP C: Adjust Existing Data for Affected Symbols
You must adjust the price data for the affected symbols; you will use the
Price Multiplier field to adjust the price data from the local currency to
the new European Currency Unit. This way, the prices will match up to the
data transmitted after the January 1 conversion. Before you begin, make sure
you have all the conversion rates handy.
A note about price data: The resolution (number of decimal places) at which
the price data is stored and displayed is determined by a) the number of
decimal places broadcast by the exchanges (and the data provider), and b) the
price scale. For example, if your data provider broadcasts prices with 4
decimal places, and you have the price scale set to 1/10000, you will store
and be able to view all decimal places. However, if your price scale is set
to 1/100, the data will be truncated to 2 decimal places.
Currently the exchanges have stated that stocks trading in the new European
Currency Unit will be broadcast with a price scale of 1/100 (or 2 decimal
places). Therefore, even if the conversion results in a number with more than
2 decimal places, the exchanges will round the number up to 2 decimal places.
To adjust your existing data:
1.Use the Start - Programs - Omega Research - Offline Data Server menu
sequence to start the offline server for your data provider.
2.Use the File - Portfolio menu sequence.
3.Highlight all symbols traded on an exchange (or that will use the same
conversion factor). Since you will be adjusting the price data from the
local currency to the European Currency Unit using the Price Multiplier
field, you can select all symbols that have the same conversion factor.
Hold down the Ctrl key to highlight more than one symbol at a time. If
you have a large number of symbols, it may be easier to adjust them in
groups by letter(s). The Symbol Portfolio cannot be sorted by exchange.
4.Click Adjust.
5.Enter the conversion factor to be used to adjust the data from the
local currency to the Euro in the Price multiplier box. MAKE SURE YOU
USE THE CORRECT MULTIPLIER.
6.Enter None in the Volume multiplier box. We do not want to adjust
volume.
7.Make sure that the Intraday data and Daily data check boxes are
selected.
8.Type a From: date in the Data Range box. This date should be the
beginning of your stored data.
9.Type 12/31/98 in the To: box. Regardless of when you are adjusting the
data, type 12/31/98 in the To: Date.
10.Click OK to adjust the data for all of the highlighted symbols.
11.Verify the new values for the data by clicking on either Edit Daily or
Edit Tick, depending on the type of data you have.
Repeat the above steps for each group of symbols until you've adjusted all
the existing data.
STEP D: Verify/Adjust the affected Symbol Universe settings
Check the price scale settings for the affected exchanges. If the price scale
is set to 1/100 or higher (e.g., 1/1000), you do not need to perform this
step. If the price scale is set to anything less than 1/100, you should
adjust the price scale or your existing data will be truncated upon
conversion, and any data collected after the January 1 conversion will be
truncated.
To edit and/or check the settings:
1.In the offline server, use the Tools - Exchange Universe Setup menu
sequence.
2.Edit the Price Scale and Minimum Movement settings for each exchange.
For stocks trading in the European Currency Unit, the price scale will
be 1/100 and the minimum movement will be 1.
Example: To change the settings for all of the symbols added to the
Symbol Portfolio trading on the FSE exchange, highlight the Frankfurt
Stock Exchange - FSE and click Edit Exch.
3.Use the PriceScale drop-down list and select the desired price scale.
4.Set the Min. Movement to 1.
5.Click OK.
6.Click Close.
The Server will change the Price Scale and Minimum Movement settings for the
symbols traded on the selected exchange. Repeat the above steps to change the
price scale and minimum movement for each desired exchange.
IMPORTANT: Most likely, when you added the symbols for the various European
Stock Exchanges, you added them using the option Use exchange settings as
default, in which case you can follow the above directions to edit the
exchange settings, and all relevant symbols will be adjusted. However, if you
added the symbols with individual settings, you will have to change the price
scale for each individual symbol. For instructions on how to do so, please
refer to the instructions in the Server User's Manual.
KNOWN ISSUES:
1.SuperCharts Real-Time 4.0 users should use the above steps to update
the Data Server.
2.If you install this patch after January 4, 1999, be careful not to
adjust any data you've collected after the conversion. Setting the To:
date to 12/31/98 will avoid adjusting any newly collected data.
