Here is one web site that has the yearly data. It is offered for free,
although you can't download it. I printed out the page and then inputed the
data by hand into a spreadsheet a while ago. If I recall correctly the
closing data points matched a graph of the S&P 500 P/E ratio printed in the
Wall Street Journal.
