There have been several calls for help recently from members who have lost
data.

A couple of months ago someone said he had so much data that he wasn't
prepared to pay $300 or so for a tape back up system. There must be a name
for that sort of thinking.

Whatever happened to computing rule number one: back up your data!! And, in
the context of this list, any el codes, etc.

Trouble is that computers have got so reliable that it's easy to forget
they can go wrong. And, as the lost-data posts show, the reliability of the
operator hasn't changed at all!

In the good old days, when computers went clunkety clunk, you had time to
think of the next instruction whilst the computer carried out the previous
one. Now it all happens at the speed of light, and it's too easy for your
fingers to get ahead of your brain.

A back up is insurance - and you've insured everything else, haven't you?
Please - do it now.
