after giving all the arguments careful consideration, i have to
conclude that even "price" lags for the majority of traders.  why?  if
you're not on the floor, and you are held hostage to a data vendor,
then price even lags the market to a degree, some days more (like
yesterday) than others. at times the price we see on our quote screens
doesn't reflect reality where we assume price = trades, though that
may not be necessarily true during extremely volatile sessions.

i think mark brown said it best (paraphrasing) that if you want true
or real price for trading or tape reading, then lease an exchange
seat, park your ass in the pit, and trade knowing that you got the
edge.  of course, you pay handsomely for that "priviledge" too.
