>For me the reason I use NT is because it is what 90% of thes rest of the
world uses and it's more profitable, more conveinent and less time-consuming
for me to be compatible with the overwhelming majority than it is to have
some remote technical advantage.
Looking at it from my perspective.
1. Where were you all and what were you doing in 1972? I was trading
Sugar.
2. Where were you all and what were you doing in 1976? I was trading
silver, and took out a bank loan to buy a computer that cost as much as a
new car did then. BTW it didn't run on Microsoft Windows!
3. Where were you all and what were you doing in 1987? I was trading SP's
and I was learning Unix, and using a program that still to this day can do
things that Omega could never dream of. I can optimize a basket of stocks
and systems and time frames all at the same time and with multi dimensional
arrays. Of course its expensive, but its all relative a good hammer can be
expensive to an apprentice carpenter. But without it he will never become a
journeyman.
4. Where were you all and what were you doing in 1989? I trading Bonds
with real money using a model that was developed a year earlier, and to this
day it is used to trade client accounts by firms I am either a principle in
or have arrangements with.
5. Where were you all and what were you doing in 1991? I was living in
Silicone Valley (Sunnyvale) I was learning more about advanced computing and
theories of things to come.
6. Where were you all and what were you doing in 1993? I was then mentoring
under one of the top CTA's in the world. A guy who has a fifteen year track
record of never a having a year under performed the (SP * 2). A fellow that
was managing money for at least two of the so called Market Wizards at the
time, that were featured in the books of the same name. BTW still to this
day they are using DOS and Unix for their mission critical work. They are
playing with OS 2 Warp and NT 4.0 and Win95. If it were not for the Windows
network being soft dollar supplied by the one of the Largest Bank's in the
world they wouldn't even have Win on a computer.
7. Where were you all and what were you doing now? I'm doing what I want
when I want whit ever what I want, I do what. I have seen fads in the
computer industry come and go. But to suggest that to use Windows is more
profitable, convenient and less time consuming? Well I cant agree with that
at all, I have become a reboot slave to all these Windows platforms. They
have certainly not contributed to my profits, I had the ideas and models
before Windows was even born, and before many of the supporters were even
out of grade school. I believe its a crime that the modern day computer
jockey doesn't have his teeth cut on the good ole days. I believe the miss
conception of Windows being GREAT! Is much like a kid to day saying boy
those Honda Cars are hot stuff, Hey I remember the days when a hot car
wasn't made in Japan. It was the day of the Cobra, the Judge, the Cyclone,
the Hemi anything here, the Vette, and the SS.
With all the ram and processor speed I have to day. My programs load slower
and run slower on the great NT 4.0 than they ever did on old Win 3.0. And
as I remember DOS was seriously fast with eight megs of ram. If this is all
progress then someone is wearing the Kings clothes! And it isnt me!
