controlling update on every tick

Does anyone have code that will cause an indicator applied to a daily chart
to update on every tick between particular start and end times of the day?
It seems that checking "update on every tick" in the format options ignores
the closing time (if it is set before the actual market close). The problem
I wish to workaround is to ignore ticks that filter in throughout the night,
causing indicators to update, giving spurious values!
