Last night I defragged my hard disk, and then started Trade Station which
promptly crashed. Any help/comments would be greatly appreciated.
I have:
NT Workstation 4.0
Trade Station latest version forget the number
I used Diskeeper for NT to defrag my disk
What Happened:
I defragged my disk with no problem, and the other day I had done a scan
disk, again no problems. I then loaded the Offline Data Server for S&P
Comstock. It seemed to load, and then while loading it started adding a
bunch of symbols to my Exchange list. The symbols that I can see in the
system status window are; LTO, SEAQTR, ISE, IBIS, BSE, VSO, and MM. All
together it added for Total Symbols: 152, and Total Daily Symbols: 87. The
last line in the System Status window is that it is requesting Exchange info.
Immediately after displaying that line I get a pop up window called: Update
Exchange Info, where it is Updating SEAQTR. Then I get a Omega Server
Window where it is telling me that there is a pricescale change going on.
In the window it says: In order to change the price scale from / to 1/1000
all collected intraday and daily data for "mation" will be deleted.
Regardless of what I click (No, No to all, Yes, Yes to all), I get a
Application Error window where it tells me that OR_SERVE caused a General
Protection Fault in module OR_CSK.EXE at 005:C3D6. When I close it all
trade station windows close, and I am unable to attempt to re-load TS
unless I turn my computer off.
My Thoughts:
I have no idea why the server was trying to load new symbols, never heard
of SEAQTR before. All my other programs work just fine, don't know why TS
failed. All of my data, indicators, systems are backed up, however I don't
have a TS CD on hand to reload the program (I will by tonight). I suspect
that when I defragged the HD something got changed, what I don't know. It
was running just fine a few hours earlier, and I only was looking at a few
charts. In the error window it was trying to change the price scale for
"mation", this a lot like information. That is why I think that something
got shifted.
Questions:
While I have everything backed up, what I don't want to lose is my
trendlines, prices, and comments that I have entered on my charts. What is
the specific file that TS saves this information in? For example I have a
workspace for Bonds daily, and by changing the contract I can see the
comments/prices/trendline that I made on Dec 96 or Sept 97. What I want to
do is copy the file(s), and after TS is back up I can swap this file if
need be. Is it possible to replace the OR_CSK.EXE (and any other files) and
not reinstall the entire program? Does anyone know a method to load TS
without loading the server, if only looking at daily data? Does TS make any
calls for the server if the only workspaces opened are using daily data
from CSI or Dial Data?
What file(s) does the server look (upon startup) at to start adding symbols
to the Exchange List? Perhaps if I open this file (using Note Pad, or a Hex
editor) and edit it I can avoid adding any files upon startup. Solving my
initial problem.
Thank you for any help.
