Surely mapping a 20-char name to an internal 8-char name cannot be too
hard. At the end of the day, the name is just an attribute of the input
object.

5.0?

just send this request:

I would like to see the maximum number of characters assigned to inputs
from 8 to 20!

to: beta@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I recently learned from Omega that even though TS 5.0 is going to be a
"true 32-bit app", they do not have any plans to increase the maximum
number of characters from the current DOS inspired number of 8
characters.

Here is their response, "TS 5.0 is a true 32-bit app, but it was never
part of the design for the inputs to exceed 8 characters. I will,
however, make it known to our designers that there's been a request for
inputs over 8 characters, but I can't give a guess as to when this might
end up in the software."

If more TS users make it known to Omega that they are tired of having to
abbreviate input names to 8 characters of less, submitting this request
to beta@xxxxxxxxxxxxx will make them aware that they should work on
expanding the number of characters assigned to inputs.
