Tick is great as a filter in trading the S&P's, along with premium.
But Ron's right in that you got to study tick's divergences with the
S&P for at least 6 months before you can get a good handle on it.
The best things in trading take a whole lot of time and a hell of a
lot of hard work. Systems, backtesting, and optimization are not a
panacea for good trading.
