With a growing number of web sites that continuously update, I often hear
the excuse that the reason they don't push new or changing content is a fear
of choking connections to the dissatisfaction of their customers, which has
some merit for slow modems. I think it would be preferable if one could
choose whether to have content pushed, however as that isn't a widespread
option offered by such web-sites, it seems that a local push utility is the
next best thing.
For example, a process that sleeps for a settable period then awakes to exec
F5 for a given URL should conceptually be a useful utility. Does anyone know
of such a utility or is there anyone that would care to develop it?
