You can buy the data directly from Dow Jones for the Industrials and
Transports from 1896-1996. It costs about $20  and information about it can
be found on their web site. You will have to separate the data in a text
editor and make each index its own file since all of the averages
(including Utilities) are in one file for each 25 years. I had a friend at
work help me out on this, because I did not have a text editor and the
spreadsheet program I have is limited to 16,000 lines. 100 years of daily
data is more lines than that. However, I guess you could just copy and
paste in a spreadsheet for the period you mentioned. I think I remember
finding two errors  of the lows which where obvious when charting the data,
but I don't believe either one of them were in this time period.
