Check out your local Chamber of Commerce!!! Most seem to have health plans for
their members. That's where I found the best deal when we lived in the midwest
and again here in the southwest. The best plans for those in 40's and over are
those which are flat rate for the whole chamber membership rather than
indivually rated. Also, individual memberships for husband/wife can be less
expensive than family membership. We're in a very small, remote town (under
5000) and our local CC has an HMO plan. We have an unbelievable rate - about
$130/month each with $20 copay and the coverage is as good or better than
anything I've seen. The chamber has special (unpublished) $100 annual rate for
home-office based professionals which I got by asking. Both here and in midwest
we had to obtain a state tax id to prove eligibility for the HMO - the state is
happy to hand them out to anyone who files with a business name.
