It was the day of the July 1998 shareholders meeting in Miami, and a
shareholder was driving to the meeting, eager to hear Mark Brown's widely
anticipated address as representative of the users of TradeStation, when
traffic came to a complete halt on the freeway. He sat waiting for the
cars ahead of him to move, but everything was at a dead stop in the hot
Miami sun.
The shareholder began to worry that he would be late to hear Mark's talk
when he spotted, of all people, Bill Cruz, going from car to car. Bill
finally came to his window and stopped, and the shareholder asked him,
"What's going on, Bill?"
Bill said, "It's Mark Brown. He's lying in the middle of the freeway and
is threatening to pour gasoline all over himself and set himself on fire.
He says he lost all of his money due to an almost impossible confluence of
extremely rare bugs that caused every one of his TradeStation systems to go
haywire at the same time, blowing him out. And I'm going around taking up
a collection for him."
"How much do you have so far, Bill?", asked the shareholder.
Bill replied, "Oh, about 20 gallons."
