Dennis, I believe you are correct.  Bob, the .dat file is like a warehouse.
You can empty the warehouse but the structure still takes up the same amount
of space.  Therefore, you take the contents out, destroy the warehouse and put
the reduced contents back (in a new .dat file that acts as a smaller storage
area).

You may want to verify with Omega just to be safe.  Good luck.
