My experiences with intraday explorations of 5 and 10 minutes has
been
poor because of the time it takes to run the explorations. If
there
are only 30 symbols, it is feasible, but if there are a couple
of
hundred, it is not.
If I'm day trading, I open the charts of the
stocks I am watching and
have the alert let me know if a buy signal appears
on one of charts.
On intraday intervals of say 5 minutes on 100
charts, by the time the
exploration is finished, I figure out which charts
had a buy signal,
get them open, and then decide which trades to take, the
game is over.
When I day trade, I look for the stocks with high
volatility and a
wide ATR, before the market opens. I pick the ones I like
and
concentrate only on those. Normally that is less than ten symbols.
I can handle 10 open charts. Beyond that my focus drops off too
much
to trade short time horizons.
When I am realigning a
portfolio, the way I am now, I set the charts
up on an EOD basis with a
defined buy zone. I look at the charts
everyday to see which symbols are in
the buy zone. The next day I use
intraday charts to find a good entry point
on any of the EOD charts
that showed a buy zone signal.
Different
strategies for different folks.
I remember reading a post on one of
the sites a couple of years ago
about the code for a batch file scheduled
runs of the explorer, but
unfortunately I don't remember where I saw it and
I didn't copy it for
my code library. If you want repeated explorations,
then that's
probably what you'll need.
Maybe one of the code guys
on here can help you with that.
