This question on CSI gets asked at least once a year. I always answer
it and wait for the responses saying that what I posted can't possibly
be right. It's amazing how calling something fuzzy logic and pass
wording it makes it mysterious.
Basically the uptrend and downtrend lines are a moving avg crossover.
The fast moving avg is about a 10 EMA and the slow MA is about a 50
EMA. Since it is password protected I'm not going to tell you what
they are exactly, but if you play with this a bit, you'll figure it
out. There's nothing any more magical about it.
The interesting thing is how well newbie's think it works when they
see it on a chart. When you tell them it's nothing more than an MA
cross over, they either deny it or get disillusioned and say well I
guess the CSI formula doesn't work after all.
The best trading systems keep it simple when identifying possible
trades, which CSI does. The rest of the decision as to whether to buy
or not should be based on market conditions first and foremost,
secondary factors like fundamentals and quants, news about the stock,
and finally judgment.
If you want a mechanical system, then prepare to be wallet whipped.
Okay the magic has been revealed. Go forth and make a fortune.
