Note that AmiBroker also uses single precision floating point.

 

Our database of US stock prices in “MetaStock” single precision format going back to 1950 takes up around 2GB of space. 

 

Double precision would take this to almost 4GB.  Reading from disk is typically the main component that slows down backtesting/scanning.

When queried on this Equis answered that it would take up too much space on the hard drive and so they would not add it to the program. Has Equis got any plans to come up with a more portable, compact
version of Metastock that could be used on a hand held PDA? If that
were offered at a discount to existing MS users I am sure it would
sell well..

While I am on my wish list, it would be nice to do more multi-time
frame analysis indicators, strategies, explorations and backtesting..
