Hi Alex,
Another, in my opinion, better way to get the data into MetaStock is to use
the MetaStockCSV Plug-in (which draws its data from your own .csv format
datafiles). Although you can use the traditional method described, you wind
up with a MetaStock function that uses a description like "Close" for the
statistic you want to use. With the plug-in, you can use any term you wish,
for instance "HousingStarts". Coming back a year from now and looking at
the formula will be much less confusing and you can have a multitude of
additional columns of data as you continue to evolve in your data gathering.
Also, instead of the rather tedious process of re-importing your data into
MetaStock format price files as described every time you add a new day (or
month) of data, simply add a new line (row) of data to your .csv format data
file. It will be used automatically by MetaStock.,
A free 10 column version is available at http://www.metastockcsv.com.
Best,
L. P. Carhartt

simpler version!!
In Excel Pute the word DATE in A1
in A2 and below put the correct date in mm/dd/yyyy format
In B1 Put the word CLOSE
in B2 and below put the value for the starts. Beware of the hidden
characters in the table.
Save the file as an .xls file
Convert the file with the Downloader. (It's help file says how)
Follow the rest of the instructions from the prior message.
Sorry for the earlier message. It is actually a very simple way with
consistantly formatted data.
