Hi Samuel

The one thing you need to be aware of is that installing an earlier version of MetaStock in a separate folder may overwrite one or more MS system files with an older version. Should this happen (and I'm sure it does) you can correct the problem by reinstalling the latest version over the top of itself to restore any common (Windows) system files. If installing several versions of MS (to different folders of course) then always start with the oldest version and work through to the newest version. That way the oldest MS version will eventually have access to the newest compatible versions of common files, rather than the newest MS version having to access possibly incompatible older versions of common files.

In almost 10 years of installing and reinstalling various MetaStock versions I don't think I've ever run into a problem when installing one version over the top of itself (that doesn't mean that doing so has always resolved the specific problem I've been trying to address either). However, uninstalling any version when other versions are present does cause problems. I believe this is because one or more critical files (also common to other versions) get deleted by the uninstall process. Installing the latest MS version last ensures that any common files are the most recent version and most likely to work for all installed MS versions.

Subject: [EquisMetaStock Group] Two copies of Metastock in WinXP

  Hello,

I need your advice. I'm now using Metastock 9.1 EOD in WinXP. I'd like to install Metastock 8.0 professional in the same computer. However, I'm not sure if they will conflict with each other. (because I'd like to keep both of them in the same computer.) Does it mean that I just need to install the MS8 pro in a seperate folder during it's installation? Anything that I need to be aware of?

Thanks for your help in advance.

  Happy trading.

  Regards,
  Samuel
