RE: [EquisMetaStock Group] Ultimate Oscillator Exploration

The same calculation made on different computers will give different
answers. Slightly different algorithms on the same computer will also give
different answers. If the answers are reasonably close together, just accept
them. If they are not close together you will have to dig deeper. Do you
have the Metastock coding for the Ultimate Oscillator?

This kind of question comes up now and then. Usually the Metastock algorithm
has been at fault. Another item, Metastock arithmetic uses single precision
arithmetic. This causes errors because many of the indicator calculations
include calculations with numbers that only differ by small amounts: these
kind of calculations really need to be made with double precision
arithmetic. Metastock refuses to include double precision. Their excuse is
that it would require too much disk space. This might have been true when we
were using megabyte size drives, nowadays we are using multi-gig drives that
have enough space even for multi-precision arithmetic.

Lastly, indicators should be thought of as guides , not as high precision
measurements.

Hi Preston,

the Ultimate indicator is available in Metastock ver 10.
however there is a slight different in the value of the oscillator from the
one which was copied from the trader.online link.

both using parameters: 7, 14, 28

which one is correct?
apprecriate your advise. thanks.

Frank,

Sorry, nothing published thus far so you can be the first.

Look in the explorer for RSI divergence or study Jose's MACD
divergence. You will want to replace the MACD or RSI with the
Ultimate Oscillator using these parameters.

Williams had specific criteria for a buy or sell signal. A buy
signal occurs when,

Bullish divergence between price and the oscillator is observed,
meaning prices make new lows but the oscillator doesn't
During the divergence the oscillator has fallen below 30.
The oscillator then rises above its high during the divergence, ie.
the high in between the two lows. The buy trigger is the rise
through that high.
The position is closed when the oscillator rises above 70
(considered overbought), or a rise above 50 but then a fallback
through 45.

A sell signal is generated conversely on a bearish divergence above
level 70, to be subsequently closed out below 30 (as oversold).

Preston
