I would probably wait for a version higher than 1.0. As far as I can
tell there are only very minor changes and most of it is cosmetic.
The main functions of the program are the same. The method of
calculation is the same. The results are the same. Those things in the
program always worked well and were done correctly from the beginning.
SpyGlass had problems resetting list files. I have to edit the txt
file by hand. No big deal. It doesn't remember changes to the basic
screen settings because those are stored in the registry so those have
to be edited by hand to change the default values. Again no big deal.
The only problem I run into is the way the Broad Mkt files are named
and stored. It's not very rational and I've had an issue or two with
that from time to time.
None of those things have been fixed in this version. Some Naming is
different. Folder Averages are now called indexes, which is what they
are. There is a 50 page plus manual that explains a lot of ways to use
the program that some users might have overlooked.
It's a better product now, but not something I would upgrade to. I
would wait for a major revision that cleans up all of these problems
or the addition of completely new features.
For those who don't use the product, the most valuable function in
Fire is the external relative strength calculation. It's accurate,
comparable week to week, and the actual numerical value means what it
says. If a stock is out performing 90% of all other stocks, then when
another stock has a value of 90, it means it is also out performing 90
of other stocks. It's just like the IBD ranking.
Fire also calculates custom indexes and other custom breadth indicators.
External Relative Strength is one of the best filters there is. I
haven't tested anything that impacts performance more in all of the
systems I've used it in. Good product.
