Preston,

I am an Investools student, and I am enrolled in their two-year program.
Investools has nothing whatsoever to do with value investing. Value
investing is the Graham/Buffet buy-and-hold strategy. The major focus of
the Investools program is on educating people how to trade stocks and
options. It's an excellent, although expensive program. I've learned a
great deal over the past seven months and have added MetaStock to my
armamentarium, primarily for backtesting trading strategies.

Mitch,

I have attended a seminar as well. Investools and Metastock are two
completely different animals.

I believe the focus of Investools is value investing using the
investment signals of their guru, Phil Town...Basically MACD,
Sochastics, and volume. The stock picks are not your run of the mill
but are high quality selections which should offer some good returns.
Of course nothing in trading or investing is guaranteed. To better
understand Phil's ideas just buy the book...its cheaper than the
lowest Investools entry level. There really are no secrets to Town's
method. Its been around forever and you'll find similar sentiments
from Jim Cramer, Warren Buffett, and Peter Lynch.

Metastock on the other hand will assist you with understanding
Technical Analysis. You'll be able to better understand and generate
entry and exit signals on any stock regardless of its quality or
potential future value.

Do you need to purchase either of these products? Nope!

You can get every one of the Investools ratings for free from a number
of other sources. You can also develop your own rating system if you
want. Town even tells you how in his book. Actually I've gone to sites
such as Reuters and MSN and found some really great tools for free.

Will you benefit from having Metastock? If you really take your time
and do your homework you will find that a lot of TA is pure crap.
Oddly enough when something of really good value is adapted by the TA
community it usually is so misunderstood that you would do just as
well to flip a coin. There are a few exceptions. In the end if you
were to go to several of the big dogs in the business what you would
find out is that they use very simple methods. More importantly you
can find plenty of free TA programs on the internet.

So why bother with Metastock at all. The benefit is in being able to
play with charts in a way that you cannot do with the freebee
products. You can plot indicators on charts in a way that you can best
understand them. Your signals are just that...yours.

In the end here is what I would do. Purchase Town's book and read it.
Use the ideas from it to select some stocks that you would like to
follow. Then use Metastock to follow the stocks you have selected. Use
the signals generated by Metastock to tell you when to buy and most
importantly when its time to sell. By no means should you count on the
learning curve as being a short one. It will take you time to get
comfortable with what you are doing. Even then I would use caution
before you venture into the waters of trading/investing.

Best of Luck,

Preston
