Thanks for that. I'm afraid I don't know what a VBNA macro is or
how to get it......

Philosophical Point -
It is very easy to get the MS SysTester to give you results that look
dangerously good. Once you have a system that appears to work, make
sure you thoroughly check the results (trade-by-trade). Or better,
give the rules to some other software platform (TradeStation,
AmiBroker, TradeSim etc) and see if they get similar results.
Experienced system developers say that about 1300 trades are necessary
before there is enough data to say whether a system is valid or not.

Then papertrade it for a while.

Then trade it with small lots for a while.

Then finally go into "full production".

I am sure someone will spoon feed you what you asked. However if you
are a real student of MBA-finance follow my advice of going carefully
through the last year or two e-mails. Do the research and you will
find a lot of gems in there, far more than the single pearl you asked
for.

Also, check out Jose's site at www.MetaStockTools.com.
He offers many free code that all you have to do is copy and paste..

Best of luck in your trading adventures.. Wish I had started at your
age.

Sorry that should have been VBA. That's Visual Basic for Applications. It's
a bit of code that will execute a set of instructions. Open file, do what
you want save the file, open the next,etc.

Unfortunately my XL macro writing skills aren't up to the task.

Perhaps somebody else in the group can help with that.

Hi

Is there a way to show the graph of a stock divided by an other one

Ex:
I have a directory of gold stocks including GLD and I want to show the
graph of ABX divided by GLD

Better
It works with ALT + Right arrow (I always use the same stock for the
division) so I can look fast what is interesting

Thank's in advance

Subject: Changing existing date format (Excel files)

Dear all,

In my Excel files, my expiry date, date of change, date of listing are found
to be in the default US format ie. m/d/yyyy. The dates key-in are supposed
to be in d/m/yyyy (UK format). For eg, 5/1/2006 (5-January-2006) previously
key-in, is found to be 1-May-2006. Re-formatting the cells to UK date
format did not help. Neither do changing the regional setting in control
panel. Manually inter-changing the day and month is mad. Maybe there is
some way to automate the inter-changing process for these previous dates.

Thank you.

Best regards,
ckng

Michel,

You can create an indicator with

Div( C, Security("C:\MetaStock Data\GLD", C))

as example.

Dear Ron,

Thank you for reply. The excel files aren't obtained by conversion with
downloader. They are key-in manually for reference purpose, eg. warrants
info with their respective expiry date and conversion price. By default
when dates are key-in manually, it's interpreted along the US date format by
excel (since the default regional setting in control panel is just that).
They will be wrong if they are key-in as d/m/yyyy in a default m/dd/yyyy
setting, in the first place.

(The downloader (ver 8.0) could export (convert) files to excel - the dates
come in mm/dd/yyyy (general format) irrespective of the regional setting.
To adjust the excel data, for eg, sort in descending order - the date
columns is first reformatted to date (from general)).

Best regards,

I am not sure how you did it with key strokes but I was able to overlay ABX
with .XAU and the result is uncanny. Certainly if you were trading ABX you
would want to do this overlay for confirmation

In fact I want to produce a chart like this one

http://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?s=abx.TO:GLD&p=W&b=3&g=0&id=p85819040067

the chart is the division of ABX by GLD and of course the indicators
are going with the chart who is shown (showed ?? sorry for the
English , but I think you understand).

If you have MetaStock Pro (or EOD v8.01 and up), you can use the
Security() function for this purpose:

chart:=Close;
index:=Security("GLD",C);
chart/index

You may also be interested in the URSC tool-kit, which compares charts
automatically to a standard/custom index, using correct percentage-
based RSC:

How I did it was to open both charts. I tiled them and dragged the actual
candle and on top of the other chart merging without scale. I do like it
better compared to .XAU though rather than GLD

Hi...

I have an indicator that I like to use on my daily charts but, since it uses
several PREV functions, it takes 1/1.5 minutes to load in each chart (and if
I make a change or a refresh of the price, it also takes a minute to input
the new values).

I was wondering if I can put the set of indicators here (this indicator is
composed by 10 diferent indicators) so that someone can take a look at it
and make it "functional".

Tks
Andre

Hi friends!

how to make a pointer to have the value of the envelope (+ and -) of a
moving average?

Ex:

{================================}

a1:=envelope positive ( Mov(C,21) );

b1:=envelope negative ( Mov(C,21) );

a1; b1;

{================================}

Any advice would be appreciated.

Andre, it may be best if you could post one or two of your component
indicators at a time, rather than overwhelming the usergroup with the
whole lot all at once.

Edson, try this basic SMA bands indicator:

===========
SMA w/bands
===========
---8<---------------------------

{ http://www.metastocktools.com }

{ User inputs }
spread:=Input("SMA bands spread %",0,100,10)/200;
pds:=Input("SMA periods",1,2600,21);

{ SMA }
x:=Mov(C,pds,S);

{ SMA bands }
upper:=x*(1+spread);
lower:=x*(1-spread);

{ Plot on price chart }
upper;x;lower

---8<---------------------------
