If there was an answer to your question, there would only need to be
one trading book with one chapter for each type of market pattern,
like trending or sideways markets, and each chapter would simply list
what works best based on completely objective testing of those best
indicators. You know backtesting is just about the most perfect
science there is. Even the number of periods to backtest is well defined.
If the world needed only one trading book, that would be very
depressing for the "gurus" because they couldn't sell their books,
seminars and web subscriptions. They wouldn't be able to make a
living. Since they can't make a living from their trading, what else
would they be able to do? How horrible!
There are indicators that work okay with specific strategies. A
specific strategy has to fit what you know how to do and what you are
comfortable with. After defining a strategy and what tools you want to
use to execute the strategy, it is then possible to calculate a
probability of success.

answer many questions for you. All of the articles in the series are
good and all of them provide answers to different trading issues.

of markets, how to use various indicators in MS, and how to figure out
the things that work, and how to define a strategy for yourself, you
should read Roy's newsletter Metastock Tips and Tools. You will want
to read the back issues--all of them. The trading articles in there
also enlighten.
