Subject: RE: [EquisMetaStock Group]
metastock 9 crashing
You
are lucky. On my desktop Metastock 9 not only crashes itself, but
crashes Windows XP as well.
I've
figured out that the reason is virtual memory buffer overrun. Both
Equis/Reuters and Microsoft developers are at fault.
Good
applications have safeguards against such things and good operating systems
like UNIX would never crash even if
application does that.
From
the user standpoint only available course of action is to do not allow the
buffer overrun to happen. This is done by
having system resources above the maximum load that application
(Metastock) may deliver.
The
cheapest and easiest way to achieve that is to reduce number of open Metastock
charts as well as number of indicators and
experts. Be sure to have your hard drive cleaned
and defragmented. Be sure to have at least 1 Gig of
free space on the hard drive.
Turn
off real-time data feed while running system test. Try to do not
run any other applications concurrently with the Metastock. Check for the
parasite and unnecessary processes (adware etc.). Turn off Norton Antivirus
real time file protection (don't forget to turn it back on while surfing
the internet).
More
expensive way is to get faster computer with more memory.
