Hi Tan,
I thought I understood that your "index points" were already computed. If
so, often the results are saved in a .csv (comma delimited) file or easily
converted to that file type. If you have not already computed the index
points and you find that MS is not the venue you need or want to do the
computations internally, an easy and extremely capable alternative is MS
Excel. Any calculation can be accomplished in Excel and, for many, Excel is
much more comfortable to work in (mostly because they are used to it). Once
you have your index points computed in Excel, save a copy as a .csv file.
At this point you can import it into MetaStock price files, or use the
MetaStockCSV Plug-in which allows MetaStock to read your .csv data file
directly.
Personally, I would choose the plug-in over the import process (and not
because I am trying to promote plug-in sales). The reason is that when I
use Excel (and I often do), I find that I need to refine my formulas and
therefore the results constantly change. Going through the MetaStock import
process is not what I call fun when you have to do it over and over again.
With the plug-in, your revised spreadsheet data is ready to be used by
MetaStock as soon as you save it as a .csv file. Any chart that is open can
just be refreshed. I work regularly in Excel and other external programs
that I write for generating statistics. That was my real motivation for
writing the plug-in in the first place. To get the data into MetaStock
quickly and easily.
The data retrieved by the plug-in can be used in any MetaStock function
including explorations. Instead of referencing a MetaStock Custom
Indicator, however, you reference the .dll with a statement like "ExtFml(
"CSV.BySym", YourValue)" where "YourValue" is any data column in your .csv
data file. If the formula for computing your data file value is long and
complex, you wind up saving a tremendous amount of time and space in
MetaStock itself.
Hope I answered your question.
Best,

Hi Larry Carhartt,
Your suggestion seems to be good. However does the MetaStockCSV extend the
formula ability into exploration? It seems that the MS directly extract the
data computed in csv. If the formula is computed in MS, than it can be used
in exploration.
Hi Preston,
The problem lies in creating index point which I think need a little
programming since MS does not include this feature. I tried to replace it
with the function cum() but its not that workable. I once read in the forum
someone actually use the development kit to program fourier type and other
mathetical model using .dll. Hope someone can give some light on it.
