Since last time I posted that message I have made a lot of tests. My conclusion is:
you do not need to install a RAM disk, I have already uninstalled it. The only thing could help is cleaning up earlier results. In Enhanced System Tester window go to Options/Clean Now/ (Check all boxes, choose 0 days)/Clean.

Just got a new laptop with 2 G of Ram and wanted to try the RamDisk
approach. Do you guys load both the MS software and data onto the RamDisk?
Does it need to be a fresh download, or can you just move existing files?
Anything else to be aware of?

Thanks
Andrew

Well, I think 10 times faster is probably about average, but it depends on a
lot of things.

Remember MS is three things, first it's a graphics program so you have a lot
of calculations that have to be made in the CPU, second, it's a huge I/O
port for information flowing into it and out of it, and third, it's dizzy
disk writing maniac.

Problems one and three could be helped by a rewrite of the software on a
more efficient platform. This is unlikely to happen any time soon.

Item two is partially MS and partially Esignal. That's not likely to change
either.

As each of those three items ebbs and flows during the day, the speed will
go up and down. Oh, did I mention your ISP connection speed flops around
during the day like a carp out of water. Then of course there's the problem
with gates on the www going down and traffic rerouting. Well, I don't want
to leave out your RamDisk software.
There are differences between management of ram by the various RamDisk
software.

That means you can get out your flashlight and screwdriver if you want, but
you probably won't figure out why the speed goes up and down, and you may
break something else in the process.

Since 10 times faster equates to 1000% improvement, maybe you can consider
being happy with your bountiful harvest, while the majority of users on here
start their computers with a lawn mower rope every morning.

That RamDisk is sweet, isn't it.
