RE: [EquisMetaStock Group] Downloading and Cleaning US data

You are asking too much. Quotes Plus does a reasonable job of handling
symbol changes, splits, etc.
QP3 now supports generating Metastock 6 (more than 255) format so it is
easier to get data to
Metastock. QP also has a bit cryptic scripting language which will do some
filtering that is difficult to do with
Metastock proper. TC2000 has relatively clean data, however, the file
format is being changed within the
next 2-3 months so it is more difficult to get the data into Metastock
format. You could also purchase
one of the many downloaders of data from Yahoo to get the "free" data.
This is a total waste of your
time and will cause you a lot of grief with data maintenance. There are
other sources of data which may
be better. Most data sources are a minefield of inconsistent data filled
with missing splits or splits where
none have occurred, missed distributions, etc. If you want just mutual
fund data, consider Investor's Fasttrack
as the mutual fund data is considered by many to be some of the best
available data to reflect true total return.
Real-time data pretty much means eSignal or Quote.com (Lycos). Go with
eSignal if you want better quality, use
quote.com for cheaper and more data per dollar cost but less accurate
and/or timely by my experience.

Subject: [EquisMetaStock Group] Downloading and Cleaning US data

Hello Everyone

The last time I used Metastock was about 3 years ago. At that time,
my data source was Reuters DataLink. I found that I was spending at
least 30 minutes everyday processing symbol and data changes.
Sometimes more than an hour. Perhaps I missed the "how to download
and automatically clean your data" class.

So my question is, is there a data provider (for US exchanges) or
some software that will sort out splits, symbol changes, stock
additions and deletions automatically?

I would rather spend my time trying to learn how to trade (and
profit) instead of having to manually verify that the data I pay for
is actually correct and usable.

Or am I asking for too much?

Thanks in advance.
