This may be of help to others running Metastock Downloader ver. 7.2 (and
possibly earlier) under Windows XP. There has always been a compatibility
problem with the "open" icons running this configuration. You cannot get a list
of the securities in a file, only the view showing the icons in a folder. Over
the weekend, I couldn't get anything. Every time I tried to open a file
containing securities, Downloader aborted. After many hours, I resolved the
problem by running Downloader under the windows 95 operating system
configuration. (Just select "properties and choose Win 95 compatibility.) I
had installed Windows XP Service Package 2 (SP2) and apparently it ended
what little compatibility had previously existed between Downloader ver. 7.2 and
XP. Running under Windows 95 doesn't fix the "icon" problem ( I understand Equis
fixed this in later versions of Downloader) but at least you can get access to
the security files again via the icon route. Hopefully this information will
save others a lot of time and headaches if they are running this configuration
and install SP 2.
