[EquisMetaStock Group] How should I handle symbol changes

What is the best method to change an exsting symbol when I get the 
dialog, "symbol has changed from xxx to yyy" 

Do I need to delete the old symbol and add the new symbol or can I 
simply rename the existing symbol?
