I have MS and use eSignal for my data. eS provides a
software interface that I feel is superior to MS plus
it is FREE with your subscription.
I write most of my indicators. The problem with MS
Formula Language is that you cannot initialize
variables and there is only one element (the IF
statement) that controls program execution. Many of
the more sophisticated algorithms require these
important features.
eS uses modified JavaScript. You can easily purchase
a book on how to program JS and see the wealth of
programming constructs available to you.
The only major drawback to eS / JS is that it doesn't
have the ability to scan a list of stocks to look for
some type of indicator trigger. This capability is
available, but is more $$$$.
