Once you are done with your sorting/filtering or whatever you want to do to
create your final list, delete all Excel columns to the right of the symbols
and any headers in Col A. All symbols should now be in Col A. Then select
File, Save As. In the drop down box below, select the file type as .PRN.
Save the file (name) to the C:\Programs\Metastock\The Downloader directory.
Then find the file using Windows Explorer, right click on the .PRN file and
select RENAME. Change the .PRN to .SYM.
Open the Downloader, click on file, new. security and you'll get that new
security box.. click on Look Up and you'll find your newly created file
(with *sym) in the Type Box, highlight your file and the stocks that are in
it will appear below, click selct all and then do your thing. This will
create empty symbol files in the Local Directory of your choice. Then run
the Downloader to fetch the historical data.
