Open the symbol file in Downloader. In the symbol box, replace the existing
symbol (XXXX) with the new symbol (XXXY.O), click the X in the top right of
the box; when Downloader asks if you want to save the file, click yes. The
data should be downloaded in your next session. Note, however:
- sometimes it may be a day or two for new data to download (it depends on
whether your data provider has updated the symbol or not)
- only Reuters DataLink uses the .O at the end; you can safely omit it (i.e.
just put XXXY, not XXXY.O) [I have no idea why Reuters puts a .O at the end
- perhaps someone can tell me]. If you insist on using .O, make sure you put
in the dot followed by the letter O, not zero
- if the new symbol has a .PK at the end, it means its a Pink Sheet stock;
Reuters (and perhaps many other data providers) does not provide data for
these stocks so you will get the message that the stock does not exist or
Unknown symbol.

Subject: [EquisMetaStock Group] Symbol Change

I'm new to Metastock. Please help with explaining how to update a
symbol. eg. XXXX change to XXXY.O . How should this be entered. I
have entered it as shown and, on the next download get the message
the stock doesn't exist. So then I enter it as XXXY and the next
download get the message the symbol has changed to XXXX. Changing
it back to XXXX, on the next download I get the message the symbol
has changed to XXXY.O. What is the correct way of entering this?
