I work 
for myself, managing several hedge funds.   While I think that 
TradeSim is a great piece of software, I don't think it will be worthwhile to 
you if you are only "making one or two trades on your mums 
portfolio".    It won't do you any good without a mechanical 
system written in MetaStock or AmiBroker.

    use TradeSim about ten hours each day.   Do you have any explicit 
    questions?    I use its interface to MetaStock as well as 
    importing files from AmiBroker.
