Subject: Re: Metastock and Excel:
Creating Text File
Hi Theo:
To print out data from Metastock as a text
file, rather than just creating a picture:
1) First, you will need to create a new print
driver, which can print to a file. To do
this, go to Start/Printers and Faxes/Add
a Printer (I am using XP; this may
vary) and create a new driver. When it gets to
which port (LPT1,LPT2) you are to
use, select FILE:Print to File. In the next step,
for the type of driver, select
Generic / Text Only. Finish creating the
driver.
2) Create the chart you want to in Metastock.
Click on Print. For the printer type,
select the new one you have just created (Generic
/ Text Only). Beside Active
Chart, change "As" from Graphics to Text. At the
bottom, if you select Print
Preview, you can see what it looks like. I would
also suggest that under Properties,
you change the layout to horizontal
(Landscape).
You will see that, if you were to print it out,
two pages are created. The first has the
basic data- O,H,L,C,V,OI. The second has the date
column again, with all of your
indicators.
If you create the .txt file, it will be saved in
the Metastock folder. There is apparently
no other option here.
It will print out this way; however, if you
actually create the .txt file, the file will be
broken up into somewhat awkward columns. You may
have trouble working with this.
I would again suggest that the easiest way is to
drag each indicator to Excel, and
delete the extra date columns. <FONT
face=Arial size=2>If you have trouble doing this, you can, as Antonio
Carcelen suggested, just <FONT face=Arial
size=2>highlight the indicator, right-mouse click it, select Copy,
go to Excel, and select Paste. <FONT
face=Arial size=2>This will do the same thing.

Subject: Re: Metastock and
Excel
Hi Theo:
I originally asked for help on getting data
into Excel,
a little while ago.
1)It appears that you can also drag each
indicator into Excel.
It will, however, copy the date with
each, so you may have
to delete several date columns.
2)An alternative to this is, as someone
pointed out to me,
you can print out the text data to a file.
You will see in
the print preview that all the indicators are
included. However,
it breaks them up somewhat in the text file,
and it is more
awkward.
I think it is easiest to make a split window,
drag each
indicator to Excel, and delete the extra date
columns.

Wayne
