Hi
Bill,
<SPAN

<SPAN
class=826192123-22092002> I initially
had so much frustration trying to get info on this, because everyone says "Hey
we have a cd that has the separate industry groups at only $100!" I knew
there was a way to do this and keep it updated. So let us deal with 10
stocks and 3 folders.
<SPAN
class=826192123-22092002>
<SPAN
class=826192123-22092002>
1 - We
create a base folder call C:/Data in Windows Explorer then add three other
folders under this called 'Capital Goods', 'Oil & Gas',
'Finances'.
<SPAN
class=826192123-22092002>
2 - We
then go to our downloader and under tools we click on copy
<SPAN
class=826192123-22092002>
3 -
Browse to the existing folder of either Metastock data or ASCII files
and select 3 stocks to copy.
<SPAN
class=826192123-22092002>
<SPAN
class=826192123-22092002>*****REMEMBER***** Do not delete source data
yet....This is a test run
<SPAN
class=826192123-22092002>
4 -
Click on copy and then in the pop up box browse to your new folder [already
created in Windows Explorer previously] called Capital
Goods.
<SPAN
class=826192123-22092002>
5
- You can do this to the other two folders so you have some test data in
those as well.
<SPAN
class=826192123-22092002>
6 - Go
to the convert section of the downloader after this operation has been
completed.
<SPAN
class=826192123-22092002>
7 - I
will assume for this example that you have an ASCII file from your data
provider that contains all the stocks with their updates for one
day.
<SPAN
class=826192123-22092002>
8 - In
the convert section, select this file to convert [i.e.: source section] and your
C:/Data as your destination folder
<SPAN
class=826192123-22092002>
9 -
****Click on the options button and make sure in the Destination
tab
<SPAN
class=826192123-22092002>
<SPAN
class=826192123-22092002>a) 'Traverse destination folders' is ticked.
Also Include open interest, and create new files are both
ticked
b) If
data exists append to end of file - replace matching dates is
ticked
<SPAN
class=826192123-22092002>
Click
convert and stress out!!!! No go get a cuppa.
<SPAN
class=826192123-22092002>
What
this will do is update the files you have copied to their new folders, and
create A - Z for the files that it doesn't find.
<SPAN
class=826192123-22092002>
So If
you had all your data sorted into their industry groups, and all the unsure or
unknown files into a "I don't know" folder, then your A - Z will remain
empty until a new stock enters the market. Then all you need to do is copy
the file into it's group or Warrants and options into their folders so you
can keep track of the market when new stocks hit.
<SPAN
class=826192123-22092002>
I
don't know much about TC2000 but I will address this soon
<SPAN

[EquisMetaStock Group] updates lost in space
Evan,
I was thinking, would their be a way I could use the standard
convert all securities using the standard 'tranverse all directories'
but, save the Industry groups in the Metastock 'Favorites' as a
place to store them.
Can the 'New Security' function be used to create a directory of
securities for industry groups and it be updated using 'transverse
all directories'.
It seems so strange that metastock is so primitive in the Industry
Group space.
Are their other tools that can do this with ASCII data
DeBry Spyglass
Pring - Sector CD
Paritech - Sector CD
These should work with Reuters data but I use TC2000 Sector and
Industry Group data

updates lost in space
Hi
Bill,
<FONT face=Arial color=#0000ff

<FONT face=Arial
color=#0000ff size=2>The only two ways I know of to sort the industry groups
in Metastock is, unfortunately, costly and/or time
consuming.
<FONT face=Arial color=#0000ff
size=2>
1 -
I have manually sorted the groups into the folders by copying the
individual files into their groups, with a separate Warrants and Options
folder. I have still kept the A - Z folders empty so if a new warrant or
stock enters the market, they will by default go into these folders.
<FONT face=Arial color=#0000ff
size=2>
2 -
I also have the OTS Ezy Station with its downloader that can sort the
Metastock into the CIGS grouping which I find a little
vague.
<FONT face=Arial color=#0000ff
size=2>
<FONT face=Arial
color=#0000ff size=2>Both of these methods will work as long as when using the
Equis Downloader you 'traverse all folders' in the options under the
converting tool.
<FONT face=Arial color=#0000ff
size=2>
Hope
this can help
