My current version of 
4.71.2195.1 shows a modification date of 5/4/2001 [as does the version 
in in my sp2 files]. The one it replaced  shows a modification 
date of 12/7/1999.
 
Don't understand your "my 
mstask.exe is outdated (7/12/1999)" vs. "I have SP2 and i so 
had the file ".
If the mod date of the 
mstask.exe in your 
\system32 is  7/12/1999, it got theredue to an overwrite by 
something installed after sp2.

      Hello friends,
       
      As stated before i am running into a lot of problems
      with the Windows Task scheduler :
      After a long search i maybe have found the problem :
      my mstask.exe is outdated (7/12/1999) .
      Microsoft tells sp2 "should have"  this newer version : (or 
      is there a newer update ??)
      
      Windows 2000 The English version of this fix for Windows 2000 
      should have the following file attributes or later:    Date        Time    Version      Size     File name
