Regarding your second question, the conventional wisdom is that momentum
oscillators such as Stochastics, Momentum or RSI work better in trading
range markets while moving average based or other trend following systems
work better in trending markets. The difficulty comes in trying to decide,
ahead of time, whether you are in a ranging or a trending market.
